Apple iPad not to be blamed for weak PC sales

PC sales have fallen and according to market research company NDP Group, the Apple iPad is not to be blamed. Stephen Baker, vice president of industry analysis at NPD, said that "the conventional wisdom that says tablet sales are eating into low-priced notebooks is most assuredly incorrect".

Baker attributed the blame for weak PC sales to the explosion of computer sales when Windows 7 were launched and large increase in netbook sales at that time.

According to NDP data, consumers are looking to buy notebook PCs priced below US$500 and that segment has grown 21 percent between October 2010 and March 2011; while sales of PCs over US$500 has dropped 25 percent in the same period.
